Cuban Black Beans

Black beans recipe (Ianm1121)

This is a very traditional Cuban black bean recipe. You can remove the ham hock if you want a vegetarian version.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb black beans (cleaned)
  • 1 pepper (sweet red (you could use green peppers as well))
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Soak beans for 1 hour and cook for 30 minutes in a Pressure Cooker (Optional add ham hock)
  2. Saute the onions, peppers, garlic and cumin in oil.
  3. When beans are cooked add the mixture to the beans and simmer for 5 minutes.

Serve with steamed rice. Beer Pairing: Black beans are usually served with a main course, but a good German or American lager or pilsner goes well with this hearty stable of Cuban cuisine.
